Our History
In the summer of 1998, a small group of local educators and current university students joined their brains and ideas to figure out how to inspire the migrant youth of Castroville, CA beyond the exciting and engaging summer Calmecac Academy that had just been formed with critical success. The problem was that the flame of momentum and drive that was created in the summer was quickly extinguished in the regular school year as students returned to their same situation as undervalued pieces of a learning community that did not take their identity, dreams, and hopes into consideration.
The solution was the formation of Águilas Guerreras (Eagle Warriors) as a club that students can join and be active throughout the academic year to bridge the gap. The foundation of Águilas was a "Si Se Puede" mindset that challenged students to think beyond their current reality and embrace their potential, opportunities, and dreams. With a focus on Familia, Educación, and Unidad, Águilas Guerreras was established and kicked off as a two-week summer college prep academy that culminated in a college tour of 5 university campuses over 3 days and two nights.
Almost 25 years later, the mission, vision and spirit of Águilas Guerreras is still alive and thriving in our community and has become a critical piece of the culture of North Monterey County High School. The goal was to help make students feel at home in their schools, to feel like they belong, to feel like they matter...today, we can proudly say that they do feel at home and will always belong and matter. Long live the Águilas Guerreras of North Monterey County High School! Keep setting goals, keep your dreams alive and keep striving for more. Si Se Puede!

Nuestra historia
